The psykter was a pot for cooling wine. Most were about 30 cm in height.
The psykter which contained the wine was put into the krater which held
the chilled water, or the psykter which contained the chilled water was
put into the krater which held the wine. The name "psykter" was
drived from "psyxein" that means "to cool" in Greek.
